The Nutrition and Obesity Research Center at Harvard is supported in large part by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the nation’s largest medical research agency dedicated to supporting scientific research that turns discovery into public health. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), within NIH, is committed to supporting those research programs that enhance the public’s understanding of some of the most prevalent diseases impacting public health.

NIDDK funds twelve university-based Nutrition Obesity Research Centers (NORCs) that are specifically designed to support research that explores the development, treatment, and prevention of obesity and closely examines the relationship between health and nutrition. The overall goal of the NORC program is to bring together basic science and clinical investigators to enhance and extend the effectiveness of nutritional sciences and obesity research.
